Romas Yakov Dorofeevich (1902-1969)

Was
born in Sokolka, Grodno pr. (today Poland), 1902.
Studied at Prechistenka Practical Institute,
Moscow, 1921-1922; Moscow VkhuTeMas/VkhuTeIn 1924-30.
Active in Moscow. Began exhibiting 1928. Member of the Union of Soviet Artists.
Specialised in landscapes, river and sea scenes.
Taught at 1905 Art Tekhnikum/College 1932-36; Surikov Institute 1948-50.
Chief artist of All-Union-Agricultural Exhibition 1950-54.
Became a Soviet academician. Awarded Stalin prize 1948.
Also a theatre artist 1922-24. Decorated festivals in
Moscow 1924-37. Adopted son of Lenin's friend, the revolutionary Inesa
Armand; married and divorced her daughter, Varya Armand.
Died in Astrakhan 1969.
